An Afrobeat/Afro-Drill artist from the western part of Africa, Nigeria precisely, who never asked life to be easy, just possible. And even that he sometimes had to negotiate.
Decker’s story didn’t begin with a fancy studio, a music-industry uncle, or buckets of money.
His story started as a regular young boy from a regular family, in a not-so-regular world, who decided he’d rather make music than excuses. His first single was recorded all the way back in 2009 - a time when most people around him didn’t even know how to spell “Afrobeats,” let alone believe someone from his neighborhood could live it.
But Decker kept going, kept recording, and kept trusting that the work would speak someday.
Fast-forward to 2019, when he released his first body of work, Life Of A Decker Vol. 1., ten years after that first single. Ten years of resisting setbacks, studying the craft, helping younger artists grow, and building his sound one brick at a time. Life Of A Decker is the kind of artist who’ll give a newcomer studio time before giving himself a day off... Because that’s the kind of man he is. A builder, in all senses.
By 2023, the journey continued with Life Of A Decker Vol. 2, released during a phase of evolution, both musically and personally. And the time spent in Rwanda became the transitioning point to his career.
In 2024, the transitional project Before Sail, which marked a shift in direction: the sound got sharper, the stories got heavier, and the purpose got louder. This is also around the time life introduced him to new collaborators, new muses, new cultures, and new ways of creating. Let’s just say two continents were suddenly cooking the same pot of ideas.
Then came the big one...
2025: They Found Out.
The moment everything in the background finally stepped into the front.
An album born from real experiences: floods at home while writing a song, generator troubles, cancelled shows, late-night voice notes, long conversations about life, identity, patience, and surviving the kind of setbacks that make a lesser person quit.
An album where every song has a deeper spiritual spine but dances around wearing lighter clothes. Life Of A Decker wraps heavy truths in grooves that even your neighbor cannot resist shaking a shoulder to.
And yes - there’s humour in the middle of all this seriousness.
If there’s one thing consistent in Life Of A Decker’s creative universe, it’s that no situation is too stressful to laugh about.
Whether it’s recording with candlelight during a blackout, becoming the legendary “1% man” because his phone battery lives permanently on the edge, or meeting fans with a hamburger still halfway to his stomach (true story: a fan recognized him mid-bite), life keeps giving him these perfectly chaotic, very real moments that shape the music just as much as experience and skill.
